Normally it is forbidden to cycle on the 56-meter high ‘VAMberg’ near Wijster, but that will soon be a thing of the past.<\/p>\n
The ambition is to develop the \u2018berg\u2019 (the only mountain in the further flat area) – owned by the waste processing company Attero – into an attractive recreation area for cyclists and mountain bikers, but also for hikers and nature lovers.<\/p>\n

The idea for a bicycle highway comes from the ambitions of the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen, together with the municipalities of Haren, Groningen, Tynaarlo and Assen:<\/p>\n

The final picture of the Assen Groningen Bicycle Highway will be completed at the end of 2017. The highway will then measure a total of 26 km. At the end of 2017, the first part of the Bicycle Highway (6 km) will be constructed. In 2018, the stretch from Assen to Tynaarlo (9 km) will be completed. The section between Tynaarlo and the Punt will also be made suitable (4 km). From 2019 onwards, the remaining 7 km will be realised.
